Analogies for Software Licensing -v- SaaS

Writer: David CohenDavid Cohen

Trying to come up with the best analogy for software licensing vs SaaS.

🎬Netflix: Back in the day, you physically receive a DVD at home, watched the movie and then returned it by post (like a software license) - VS - logging on at home and watching through the internet (SaaS).

🏋️ Gym memberships: Buying your own equipment and taking it home (software license)  - VS - going to the gym and working out where you don't own anything, don't have to worry about maintenance etc (SaaS).

🚗 Cars: Hiring a car where you’re responsible for the vehicle during the rental period (software licensing) - VS - taking a taxi where you use the service without owning or maintaining the vehicle (SaaS).

Not sure if any of these really landed except for Netflix.
